Dashlane, a password manager, has announced that on May 31, an “external party” launched a “brute force attack” against select user accounts. The tech firm claims that an attempt was made to breach Dashlane’s two-factor authentication protections to register “new devices” for existing user accounts, illegitimately gaining access to their password vaults and credentials. A password vault is meant to store multiple passwords for users in one place, while attempting to keep them secure. However, this is not the first time such an attempt has been made against a password manager. In 2022, LastPass revealed that hackers had managed to access its source code to steal passwords.
