Cyclone Montha: Severe Cyclone to Hit Andhra Pradesh; Heavy Rain and Windy Weather Expected

A powerful Cyclone Montha is intensifying over the southeast Bay of Bengal, and according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), it is expected to make landfall between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam near Kakinada on October 28.
The storm, also being referred to as Mantha Cyclone on social media, could bring windy weather, heavy rainfall, and rough sea conditions along the Andhra Pradesh coast.


🌧️ Cyclone Montha Path and Wind Speed

  • Current Status: Deep depression over southeast Bay of Bengal, moving northwestwards.
  • Expected Landfall: Near Kakinada on October 28.
  • Wind Speed: Likely to reach 90–100 km/hr, gusting up to 110 km/hr during landfall.
  • Sea Conditions: Very rough; fishermen advised not to venture into the sea from October 26.

IMD officials have warned that coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and northern Tamil Nadu could experience strong winds and continuous rainfall over the next 48 hours.

  • Chennai: Light to moderate rain, with cloudy skies and gusty winds as the cyclone edges closer.
  • Hyderabad: Showers likely on October 27–28 due to the cyclone’s inland movement.
  • Odisha: North coastal districts to witness heavy rain and strong winds.
  • Rayalaseema: Extremely heavy rain, possibly over 210 mm in 24 hours, forecast for October 27–28.

The Andhra Pradesh Disaster Management Authority (APDMA) has placed all coastal districts on high alert.
Relief teams are on standby, with shelters, food, and emergency power backups prepared.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation through satellite and cyclone tracker tools like windy weather maps and IMD’s real-time radar.


🌀 Cyclone Montha in Context

Cyclone Montha will be the second cyclone to hit Indian shores this month, after Cyclone Shakthi, which impacted Gujarat.
Experts say October cyclones are common due to favorable sea temperatures and wind patterns over the Bay of Bengal.
